The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), in collaboration with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), hosted a seminar titled "Public Communication, Youth, and Gender Inclusion in Line with Egypt’s Vision 2030" as part of the "Supporting Public and Economic Governance in Egypt" project, funded by the European Union.
The seminar was attended by Dr. Mona Essam, Assistant Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation for Sustainable Development; Dr. Heba Zaki, Director of the Egypt Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (affiliated with NIGSD); Amr Suleiman, Project Manager and Policy Analyst at the MENA Governance Programme of the OECD; Aya Nawar, Deputy Head of the Sustainable Development Unit at the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation; as well as representatives from civil society organizations, academia, youth groups, and the private sector.
During the seminar, Dr. Mona Essam highlighted the objectives of the Supporting Public and Economic Governance in Egypt project and its role in assisting the Egyptian government in implementing and monitoring its national sustainable development agenda. She emphasized that the project supports strategic policymaking, institutional and human capacity building, and integrates key principles such as transparency, accountability, and communication. The project aims to engage all segments of society, particularly youth and women, who are seen as key drivers of change through innovation, technology adoption, community engagement, political participation, and entrepreneurship.
Dr. Heba Zaki, Director of the Egypt Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, noted that Egypt’s Vision 2030 serves as a roadmap for achieving long-term national objectives. Since its launch in 2016, youth and women’s empowerment have remained central pillars of the strategy, including its most recent update in 2023. She highlighted NIGSD’s efforts in raising awareness of governance and sustainable development while enhancing youth skills and capabilities through various training programs and initiatives. These include “Be an Ambassador,” “Governance Ambassadors,” “Climate Ambassadors,” and the “Green Minds” initiative, which is specifically designed for school students.
The seminar also featured an open discussion among representatives from civil society, academia, youth groups, and the private sector to foster dialogue on how public communication can contribute to an inclusive approach to achieving Vision 2030. The discussion focused on effective communication mechanisms and was moderated by Mireham Anwar, Senior Consultant for Public Administration Reform within the project.
